Privacy Policy

How Jack's Garage handles your personal data.

This Privacy Policy explains how Jack's Garage ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses and protects the personal data you share with us, and the rights you have under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. We are committed to keeping the limited information we hold about you safe and to being clear about how we use it.

Who we are

Jack's Garage is a family-run Classic VW specialist based in Ladbroke Grove, West London. For the purposes of UK data protection law, we are the data controller responsible for your personal data. You can reach us at:

We do not operate a public email address. The quickest way to reach us is by phone, through our on-site enquiry forms, or via our Facebook page.

What information we collect

We only collect the information we genuinely need to answer your enquiry and to look after your vehicle. Depending on how you contact us, this may include:

  • Information you give us through an enquiry or contact form - your name, email address, telephone number, vehicle details (such as registration, make and model) and the content of any message you send us.
  • Information you give us by phone, in person or on Facebook - the details you choose to share with us so that we can advise you, provide a quote or carry out work on your vehicle.
  • Technical and cookie data - basic information collected automatically when you browse this website, such as your IP address, browser type and how you use the site. For more on this, please see our Cookie Policy.

We do not knowingly collect any special category data and we ask that you do not send us sensitive personal information through our forms.

How we use your information and our lawful bases

We use your personal data only for clear and limited purposes, and always rely on a lawful basis under the UK GDPR:

  • To respond to your enquiry and provide you with information, advice or a quote. When you submit an enquiry form, we rely on your consent, which you give by ticking the consent box, and on our legitimate interests in answering your message.
  • To provide our services - booking your vehicle in, carrying out servicing, MOTs, bodywork, repairs or EV conversions, and keeping you updated on the work. Where you become a customer, we rely on the performance of a contract with you and on our legitimate interests in running the workshop.
  • To keep proper business records and meet our legal and accounting obligations, where we rely on compliance with a legal obligation.
  • To maintain and secure this website, where we rely on our legitimate interests in keeping the site working safely and reliably.

We do not use your details to send marketing unless you have specifically asked us to, and we will never sell your information.

Sharing your information

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal data, and we keep the people who can see it to a minimum. We will only share your information where it is necessary to do so, for example with:

  • trusted parts suppliers, specialist sub-contractors or our EV conversion partner where this is needed to carry out work on your vehicle;
  • your insurer or a third party you have asked us to deal with on your behalf, for example in connection with a bodywork or accident repair;
  • our professional advisers (such as our accountants) and service providers who help us run the workshop and this website;
  • law enforcement, regulators or other authorities where we are required to do so by law.

Where we use other organisations to process data on our behalf, we put appropriate safeguards in place and they may only use your data on our instructions.

How long we keep your information

We keep your personal data only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this policy. If you make an enquiry but do not go on to become a customer, we will normally delete your details once your enquiry has been dealt with. Where you become a customer, we keep service and vehicle records for as long as we reasonably need them to look after your VW and to meet our legal, accounting and tax obligations, after which they are securely deleted or anonymised.

Your rights under UK GDPR

Under UK data protection law you have a number of rights over your personal data. These include the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you;
  • Rectification - to ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data;
  • Erasure - to ask us to delete your data in certain circumstances;
  • Restriction - to ask us to limit how we use your data;
  • Object to our processing of your data where we rely on legitimate interests;
  • Data portability - to receive certain data in a portable format; and
  • Withdraw consent at any time where we are relying on your consent.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us by phone on 020 7243 8926 or through our contact page. We will respond within the timescales required by law.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, we would always like the chance to put things right, so please get in touch first. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK's supervisory authority, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), at ico.org.uk.
